Celestial Tiger Entertainment Acquires First and Exclusive Rights to The Highest-Grossing Chinese Film Ever, Wolf Warrior 2

HONG KONG (October 9, 2017) Celestial Tiger Entertainment (CTE), operator of the largest bouquet of pan-Asian channels dedicated to Asian entertainment, announced today that it has secured first and exclusive pay TV rights for action mega blockbuster Wolf Warrior 2 and Chinese fantasy adventure film Wukong from CMC PicturesThe deal also secures pay-per-view (PPV), video-on-demand (VOD) and over-the-top (OTT) rights for CTE’s channels, Celestial Movies and cHK, in Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines. Wolf Warrior 2 is now the highest-grossing film of all-time at the Chinese box office, with US$ 850 million in ticket sales.

Starring and directed by Chinese action star Wu Jing, Wolf Warrior 2 is now the top-grossing film in China, breaking the record previously held by Stephen Chow’s fantasy comedy The Mermaid last year. This action-packed sequel is about a former Chinese special forces operative whose mission is to rescue Chinese nationals in an African country occupied by mercenaries.  Wolf Warrior 2 is not only the highest-grossing film of all-time in China, its US$850 million box office take is also the second biggest gross for a single territory. The only film to beat it is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with US$936.7 million in ticket sales in North America.


The deal also secures the Chinese fantasy adventure film Wukong. Starring heartthrob Eddie Peng Yu-yan as the formidable Wukong (a.k.a The Monkey King), who is unwilling to bow down to his own destiny, and sets out to rebel against the gods.


In addition, Celestial Movies will soon air a slate of latest Chinese blockbusters, including superstar Jackie Chan’s two action comedies Railroad Tigers and Kung Fu Yoga, as well as Andy Lau’s revenge action thriller Shockwave. 


CTE has the most exclusive output deals among Chinese movie channels in the region, including deals with renowned Hong Kong movie studios Distribution Workshop, Emperor Motion Pictures, Media Asia, Mega-Vision Project Workshop and Universe Entertainment.
