Celestial Movies Debuts Two Special Events in September

Korean Pop Superstar Rain’s Latest Concert and Big-budget Korean Action Drama Hero

Hong Kong (August 29, 2012) - Come September, Celestial Movies, the biggest 24-hour Chinese movie service in Asia and beyond, will debut not one, but two special events – the world TV premiere of Korean pop superstar Rain’s latest concert, Rain: The Best Show, and the first and exclusive broadcast of big-budget Korean action drama HERO. These two shows will enhance Celestial Movies’ promise of offering viewers the biggest stars and the biggest blockbuster productions. Besides these special events, Celestial Movies will continue to bring first and exclusive movie premieres to its subscribers this September, such as the 2012 Hong Kong Film Award-winning movie Life Without Principle.

Rain: The Best Show will be making its television premiere on Celestial Movies before any other channel in the world. With a budget of over US$3 million, the concert was shot in 3D (although it will be broadcasted in 2D) and is a culmination of Rain’s greatest hits from his 10-year career as an artist and superstar. The concert was recorded on 25th September, 2011 at Seoul’s Olympic Park Gymnastics Stadium during the last stop of his world tour. This was Rain’s final concert performance before he enlisted for the Korean National Service last year. He will not be able to perform commercially until he finishes his military service in July 2013 so this is the only opportunity for fans outside of Korea to catch his slick dance moves for a while.

Rain: The Best Show will premiere on Celestial Movies on 23rd September at 9pm (MAL, SG, HK)/8PM (JKT).

With the first two episodes incurring a hefty US$1 million production budget, HERO premiered as the number one programme in its timeslot among all cable channels in Korea in March 2012. This ten-episode Korean action drama series is set in a fictional future where South Korea has gone bankrupt and its cities are crime-ridden and corrupt. HERO centers on a bad boy by the name of Heuk Chul (award-winning actor Yang Dong Geun) who is the son of the mayor of one of these crime-ridden cities. When Heuk Chul gets caught in the middle of a police sting, he ends up taking a bullet fired at the beautiful detective Ih-Ohn (Han Chae Ah). The serious injury causes Kim to fall into a coma and the only way to save him is to inject him with untested nanotechnology.

Upon recovering from his near-death experience, Heuk Chul discovers that he possesses the superhuman ability to heal himself and regenerate. In the meantime, the dark truths of corruption that plagues the city begin to unfold before his eyes. Realizing the truth, Heuk Chul decides to use this newfound ability to fight against evil and make things right in this chaotic world.

HERO premieres exclusively on Celestial Movies on 3rd September and will air every day from Monday to Friday at 8pm (MAL, SG, HK)/7PM (JKT), with an encore telecast at 10:45pm (MAL, SG, HK)/9:45PM (JKT).

“Celestial Movies aims to bring the biggest stars and the biggest productions to our audience so we are thrilled to be bringing two big special events for our viewers in September,” said Ofanny Choi, Executive Vice President, TV Networks, Celestial Tiger Entertainment. “With Rain: The Best Show, we are offering our subscribers something rare on Asian pay TV channels these days, the exclusive premiere of a program in the whole world. With HERO, the big budget nature of this production makes it feel more filmic than your typical Korean drama. I think our viewers are in for a treat this September with two special events and the premiere of an award-winning movie.”
